Going Big: Upgrade to Ionic 5 in our March 2021 Release

We are proud to announce our March 2021 release: Appery.io is officially the first low code editor upgrading to Ionic 5!

The main focus is to introduce a smooth conversion from Ionic 4 to Ionic 5 and this has become one of our biggest achievements since we moved to Ionic 4. Transferring to this game-changing framework is already a big step but we would also like to share our long-term plans that go far beyond pure conversion.

  • With this release, we are introducing Ionic 5 support and enabling all our users to create both Ionic 4 and Ionic 5 apps independently;
  • In Q2 2021, the option of upgrading Ionic 4 projects to the Ionic 5 version with keeping both apps active will be offered;
  • Yet another milestone will be disabling the possibility of creating Ionic 4 projects (early June);
  • With all that being said, we will continue the support of all Ionic 4 projects and their backups until at least 2023.

And now, just in case you are still hesitant about whether you should evaluate the advantages Ionic 5 can bring to your project, we have outlined some of them to consider:

  • Ionic 5 applications look very modern, run faster, and are much more reliable;
  • The latest Ionic version follows the modern Material Design Guidelines and Human Interface Guidelines from Apple;
  • Conversion and adoption rates are extremely favorable;
  • With Ionic 5, you are guaranteed to enjoy working with the top-notch framework, efficiently collaborate with the Ionic community, and get access to the latest Ionic and Angular UI components;
  • Custom animations, revamped Ionicons, updated Ionic colors, new starter designs, improvements to component customization (including but not limited to iOS 13 design updates), and more are available.

We are happy that our users will now be able to enjoy highly engaging development practices while creating native experiences on the most advanced mobile device versions.

Appery.io Participates in the Black Girls CODE & GM Hackathon

In October 2020, the Appery.io platform was selected as the primary technology stack for the Reimagining Black Futures virtual hackathon organized by Black Girls CODE(BGC) and General Motors (GM).

The hackathon’s theme revolved around Afrofuturism — a concept that merges African culture and history with elements of science fiction. Several high-profile guests attended the event, including renowned historian Tyree Boyd-Pates and New York Times Magazine culture writers Jenna Wortham and Kimberly Drew.

Over the course of three days, #futuretechbosses from the Bay Area, Detroit, and New York City developed social justice-focused application concepts and software platforms.

Prior to the hackathon, Alexander Ancipov from the Appery.io team held a series of workshops to teach the participants how to use the app builder. During the event, Alexander answered the girls’ questions via email, Slack, and the hackathon forum and helped them solve technical challenges.

When the pitch day arrived, the students presented their ideas to a panel of judges from several IT companies. The winning project was Rooted — a mobile application that connects Black professionals with HR specialists from technology companies in Silicon Valley. Apps like Rooted could potentially help Black youth fill the 1.4 million computing jobs created in the United States in 2020.

Appery.io is thrilled to have been part of the hackathon and is looking forward to collaborating with BGC in the future. We strongly encourage our colleagues from the IT industry to take a leadership role in gender and racial equity.

From Startup to Enterprise: Leveraging Appery.io

Israel, a tiny country of only eight million people, has more startups per capita than any other country in the world. Most of the Israeli startups are focused on cybersecurity, digital marketing, medical equipment, and SaaS-based technologies. Unfortunately, Israeli startups have been struggling to scale for the last decade. Only a few companies have scaled up into enterprises. This is disappointing for a country with so much potential.

Each startup is unique, but every entrepreneur faces the same set of strategic challenges to overcome. According to successful entrepreneurs, once a startup is initiated, the founder needs to pay special attention to a few of the long-term strategic questions for scaling up.

  • How do I strengthen my market position through innovation?
  • How do I support growth in human capital?
  • How do I attract foreign venture capital investors?

As part of focusing on these strategic points, the leading cloud-based, rapid development environment for building mobile and responsive apps, known as Appery.io, can become a Swiss army knife for entrepreneurs. Here’s why:

Concentrate on Innovation Not Infrastructure

With Appery.io, a citizen developer can build a basic mobile hybrid app connected to a cloud database literally in five minutes.

Furthermore, a team of professional developers can easily power up the original basic app with Appery.io built-in enterprise features. In a recent success story, we described such a collaboration in which the customer drafted the app screens using the platform and then our developers added in the rest.

Scale the Team Quickly

With R&D centers in North America and Europe, Appery.io can augment a startup team with five-hour, forty-hour, or longer assignments. And, a 24/7 support line is available to customers. All Appery.io in-house professionals are creative thinkers and leaders. In addition, they speak fluent English and Russian.

Gateway to the World Market

Appery.io provides several pathways into the world market for startups. Appery.io also has an extensive platform community of over 300,000 customers across the world. In addition, the Appery.io website publishes many success stories of innovative projects using its platform to a world-wide audience:

Final Words

One more thing. Nothing is written in stone. Dare to desire. Appery.io is here to assist you.

How We Try to Make Our Customers Happy

Appery.io How We Try to Make Our Customers Happy

How We Make Our Customers Happy

Appery.io has a lot of cool features for developing apps, but which parts of Appery.io help our Apppery.io Services customers the most? To figure this out, we have interviewed our customers to find what made them the happiest in getting work done on our platform using our services. Here’s what our customers singled out.

Pricing

Interviewees indicated that they benefited a lot from our scaleable pay-as-you-go approach. Many thousand-hour projects start with a single Advisory Pack or Flex Pack (five- or forty-hour assignments). After working with us, they become confident enough in our professional services to move forward with us even faster. (Some of our customers have said that acquiring professional services with us is like ordering food from a menu at a restaurant.) Of course, if five hours of help is all you need, we have you covered there, too.

Process

Because of the ease-of-use support built into the platform, our customers can do the initial prototyping themselves and seamlessly hand off the project to Appery’s professionals to finish. Our clients are excited to be able to to stay focused on the business requirements for their apps while leaving the challenging implementation details to us – all within the same development environment.

Transparency

Many of our customers mentioned the transparency aspects of the platform in getting the most out of Appery Services. Many people are used to sticking notes on their refrigerator, so they find our platform’s online collaboration board very easy to use. The board consists of three columns: “to-do”, “in progress” and “done”. Moving a note from one column to another represents a developer’s progress with the task. In addition to this, enterprises can benefit from sophisticated reports to track progress, identify potential bottlenecks, and determine future performance.

More than 400,000 Appery.io customers already enjoy having the option to use our services to easily and efficiently augment their benefit from the platform. Join the club!

App Metrics You Need to Know: A Guide for Mobile Developers

metrics_you_need_to_know

A guest blog post by Vasily Malyshev (Messapps)

Perhaps the best way to run a business is to run it mathematically. Knowing all your business metrics will allow you to not only better predict your revenue but also understand what you can do and how much you can invest to further multiply your revenue. In my role as CEO of an app development company, Messapps, I have worked on over 50 different applications and found that knowing the following metrics is absolutely essential if you want to be a successful “appreneur”.

1. Downloads

What it is: Number of downloads represents the number of unique app store accounts that have downloaded your app. That means that if the same person downloads the app 10 times it will still be displayed as 1 download. The exact number of downloads is always shown in your app store analytics.

Why it is important: Ok, that’s a no-brainer. How many people download your app is the most basic and the most important metric. If downloads are at 0 then all other metrics simply don’t exist. You need to get those users first in order for your app to start earning money. No matter which monetization method you’ll choose.

That being said, it is important to note that number of downloads can also become completely meaningless if nobody is using the app after the initial download.

What Does It Mean To Be “Mobile” In Your Organisation?

“Going mobile” is more than just having a website—it means a whole load of things. It’s about reaching and engaging with your members in a new way, and offering your members a different way to receive information; making information accessible at any time and in any place.

While a website may provide information for your members, you also want to have a way to get your members talking to each other and joining in events and activities. We are in a society where we are constantly looking for up-to-date information, mobile apps provide us with this and our phones are within reach at all times. There are numerous angles your non-profit can take when it comes to creating a mobile app, some opt for informational such as The Red Cross, which provides weather alerts to help citizens better prepare for potential natural disasters. But, for your non-profit organisation, being mobile can mean any of the following things:

  • Mobile Web—optimising your website, content, and donation forms for mobile devices.
  • Mobile messaging— increasing your communication with your members, co-workers, and donors via text messages.
  • Online donations/text-to-give—providing a way for your members to donate through their mobile devices via a mobile optimised online donation form or website, or by texting a donation directly to your organisation.
  • Mobile Apps—creating your own customised application for your members to download to their smartphones or tablets for easy access.
