Quick Note: Deprecated Libraries 1.1 and 1.2 Removed from the Appery.io System

We would like to call attention to important changes made to the library versions of all Ionic 1 and Bootstrap projects.

Their library versions 1.1 and 1.2 have been marked as deprecated:

In this connection, we highly recommend upgrading your app(s) to the latest version available.

Also, please make sure you test your app to check if it works properly after performing such an upgrade.

Thank you for your understanding and happy developing!

Global Developer Community Unites for Appery.io COVID-19 Hackathon

In these times of uncertainty and unrest, individuals and businesses around the world are finding new and unique ways of working and living. While many are able to adjust with ease to the challenges of COVID-19, others are not so able to adjust easily. Social distancing measures can cause ripple effects in mental health. Economies are trending downward, forcing many to rethink their financial strategies. The elderly and other vulnerable groups need enhanced support and protection.

However, the current state of technology and collaboration provides hope that we will find solutions to these new challenges. Plus, with many people in the tech field able to work remotely, innovation doesn’t have to stop. At Appery.io, we recognize that the time is right for developers to bring their ideas to life—to find ways that we can work together to help our global community.

That’s why we are hosting the “Appery.io COVID-19 Virtual Hackathon” where we are encouraging developers from all over the world to build digital solutions that solve some of the challenges posed by the Coronavirus pandemic. The Appery.io COVID-19 Virtual Hackathon has already started with final submissions due May 6, 2020, by 11:59pm PDT (GMT -7). A panel of experts will judge the submissions, with up to $1,000 in cash prizes awarded. A virtual ceremony will be hosted on May 10, 2020 to recognize the finalists.

Using Appery.io, a low-code application development platform used by nearly 500,000 developers worldwide, participants will be challenged to build applications that help groups and businesses most impacted by COVID-19. Projects should focus on areas like healthcare, mental health, assistance for the elderly or vulnerable, improving remote work, financial stability, or maintaining a sense of community. Developers are free to be as innovative and unique as possible with minimal restrictions on application type or theme.

Participants are welcome to register and submit their applications until May 6, 2020 to get final projects in. Submissions will be judged by a panel of experts according to a range of relevant criteria. Prizes will be awarded as follows:

  • 1st $1,000 and an Appery.io Annual Pro Subscription
  • 2nd $500 and an Appery.io Annual Pro Subscription
  • 3rd $250 and an Appery.io Annual Pro Subscription

Greeting Spring with a New Appery.io Release

Our March platform update rolled out on March 1. We continue to focus our main efforts on the most advanced Appery.io framework, Ionic 4. We have already added plenty of Ionic 4 tutorials for it (for example, making a todo list app, using Google maps, working with the ngx-translate library, and adding file uploading). Now we are going to add new components. Just take a look at the new palette:

Checkbox

Checkboxes allow the selection of multiple options from a set of options. Of course, you know this. And now the corresponding component is available for Ionic 4!

Form

You have to agree that it is much easier to create different forms (like login and signup forms) with a special component.

Link

The link component is used for navigating to a specified link. Similar to the browser’s anchor tag, it can accept an href for the location and a direction for the transition animation.

Chart Component

Now you can add and display any type of chart from the popular chartjs library by just clicking one button!

And More…

We have simplified working with some Cordova plug-ins (Camera, Push), added the capability to quickly delete Server Code folders with content, and added the “File” type for an Input component.

Another New Ionic 4 Tutorial: Learn How to Create a Login Form with Validation

This time we are happy to offer a new tutorial that describes step-by-step how to create an Ionic 4 app in which a login form with validation is used.

Prebuilt App Option

For this tutorial, we have added an option for you to explore a finished app before following the tutorial steps. To do this, first, download this backup file for the project. Then, click Create new app in the platform. Finish up with these steps:

  1. Select From backup
  2. Select the project backup file on your drive
  3. Type in the app name
  4. Click Create

Building from Scratch

However, if you just want to follow the tutorial to build the app from scratch, it’ll be quite easy. The tutorial includes many screenshots and detailed explanations to keep you from getting lost in the twists and turns of development.

And of course, stay tuned! We are working on adding even more Ionic 4 tutorials!

Appery.io Community: Video Channel

An integral part of Appery.io’s success has always been its strong community of developers. Now we have come up with a new way to support this community—a YouTube channel called Appery.io Community. This channel will include new tutorials from the Appery.io team, but, more importantly, it will also include videos submitted by our developer community. Submitted videos can explain different features of Appery.io, or they can showcase developers’ own apps developed with Appery.io. With this channel… Ugrade your development skills by checking out the videos. Upload a video to share your app with the world or a potential customer. Upload a video Appery.io tutorial that you created on your own.

Let’s get started! Send me your videos (or your ideas for videos).

A Year of Achievement for Appery.io in 2019

It’s that time of the year again, time to reflect, celebrate, and start planning ahead. As we look back over the year for our low-code development platform Appery.io, we have to say we are pretty proud!

In general, it was great to see a resurgence in the market for low-code development platforms. As IT leaders face more complexity and more pressure to innovate, low-code and no-code tools like Appery.io allow IT leaders to keep up with the pace of modern technology. Appery.io stands out for its excellence in this area—as shown by the more than 500,000 developers worldwide who trust Appery.io for their low-code and no-code development projects.

Having a platform that is both simple and extremely advanced is critical to the Appery.io team. This focus has enabled us to keep the platform up-to-date incorporating all the latest trends in mobile and app development—as seen in our many updates.

Along with many momentous feature updates, we have also published new resources and received many industry recognitions in 2019. We wanted to share some of the highlights of this activity, in case you missed it.

Major Feature Updates

  • Progressive Web App (PWA) Support
  • Codeless Features Added
  • Ionic 4 Support

Progressive Web App (PWA) Support

PWAs are the new generation of web application development. These apps load like regular web pages but offer users more functionality, such as working offline, push notifications, and access to device hardware, traditionally available only to native applications. PWAs work seamlessly on desktop, mobile, and tablets from a single codebase. This enables PWA developers to be the sole managers of their application without having to jump through the hoops of multiple app platform uploads or review processes.

In Appery.io, users are able to turn apps into PWAs seamlessly with a few clicks, and without having to change any code.

Additional Resources on PWAs:

Codeless Features Added

The Appery.io AppBuilder allows developers and technology leaders alike to create iOS, Android, or PWA apps with no or low code. Key codeless features in Appery.io include:

UI Composition: Build an application UI with a few clicks. Appery.io allows users to easily drag and drop a component from the AppBuilder palette to the design page. Switch design modes seamlessly to preview the UI on Android and iOS.

Event Panel: Allows users to set a single action or set of actions for every event in an app. In a few steps, users can select a component, open the Events Panel, and set an action that will run when the event appears.

Mapping: the Mapping Editor allows users to drag component properties to service request parameters. An arrow shows which way values will be mapped to take out the guesswork.

Additional Resources on Codeless for Appery.io:

Ionic 4 Support

Keeping up with modern development trends, Appery.io now offers the Ionic 4 App Builder as a production-ready solution for building mobile apps. Ionic 4 allows developers to build PWAs in a way that is future-proof, fast, and framework-agnostic. Bringing Ionic 4 to Appery.io gives users the flexibility and intuitive design they need to craft modern applications.

Meet Our Last Release of the Year

In this release, we focused our efforts on Ionic 4 features.

We added PWA support for projects created in Ionic 4. (If you have forgotten what this is and what it’s for, please check this useful post.)

Also, we added the ability to use default values (strings, numbers, booleans, and values chosen from select) in the mapping for beforeSend actions in Ionic 4 projects. We are sure that many of our users will be happy to use this feature in their projects.

Finally, we improved splash images for iOS including launchscreen for iPhone X.

Happy Holidays from the Appery.io Team

We would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. See what we achieved this year!

Platform Upgrade: The General Release of Ionic 4 App Builder!

We’re happy to announce that our Ionic 4 App builder is now a production-ready (no longer beta) solution for building mobile apps in Appery.io!

What’s next? Right now, our team is working on documentation, templates, and app samples which we’ll post shortly on our docs site here: https://docs.appery.io/. Meanwhile, check out our tutorials section: https://docs.appery.io/docs/samples-overview#section-trending.

One thing to keep in mind. Going forward, we’re removing Ionic 3 from Appery.io, but, if you have already created an Ionic 3 app and published it, you can still use it. However, we strongly suggest rebuilding the app using the Ionic 4 version in our platform.
